JOEY ADEBAYO
HYPE CENTER COORDINATOR
Joey brings diverse community service experience working in different industries such as Customer Service, Mental Health, and Healthcare. First and foremost, he is a critical thinker. Joey excels at observing industries operationally and assisting them to function better, which is what drew him to Freedom Forward’s mission.
Prior to joining Freedom Forward, Joey was a Clinical Assistant with Paradigm Treatment Center mental health facility, working directly with teens and young adults (12-26). He assisted in guiding residents through daily activities while ensuring an overall productive day for each youth in treatment.
Prior to working with Paradigm, Joey worked with Bay Area Phlebotomy and Laboratory Services as admin for their mobile vaccine team. He assisted in outreach to schools, planning after school covid vaccinations events, and other public events. An event he loved being a part of most was Serenity House, a program of Sister to Sister 2, Inc., a nonprofit organization in Oakland. There, Joey got to assist in planning monthly events with Serenity under BayPLS.
When the pandemic initially hit, Joey began front-line work with One Medical as front desk administrative assistant in healthcare. Within the same year, he was promoted to supervisor, overseeing a growing team in completing front desk administrative tasks and appointment scheduling for their Urgent care facility, while also managing all medical inventory supplies for their laboratory phlebotomy team and urgent care providers in Duboce Triangle, here in San Francisco.
Prior to One Medical, Joey worked with Peet’s Coffee & Tea as a shift supervisor barista, serving the community with taste and teaching many baristas drink recipes in Berkeley and Alameda. Joey spent 5 years with Peet’s and took great pride in customers personally trusting only him to make their cappuccinos. Joey sharpened his knowledge about customer service and what goes into adding to someone’s day positively with this role.
In his early years attending highschool, Joey volunteered at a group home as a receptionist while working in the summers as a Recreational Aide with the City of Oakland at Studio One Art Center. He’s currently taking classes at Merritt College to receive his AA in Psychology and plans to obtain a masters in Marriage and Family Counseling to further his knowledge supporting all walks of life. Other passions of his are within music, which he cultivated into discovering sound therapy as a form of personal healing. Joey lives in Oakland, has a cat named Blue who's turning 9 in October 2023, and is a proud first-generation African-American.
